A/C compressor bi-metallic thermal switch...BAD! 200

All,

How necessary is the bi-metallic thermal switch on my a/c compressor??? Can a replacement be sourced???

It is now preventing my compressor from functioning properly.

Is it fine to just bypass this bi-metallic thermal switch and just wire directly into it? Any issues with this?
