All:
I restored my '62 PV544 and when re-fitting the filler neck extension at the top of the gas tank I noticed it was squished about 1/3rd of the round pipe shape. I went ahead and connected the rubber sleeve to the bent pipe and the filler neck. But apparently there's no way the rubber sleeve can compress tightly enough against the squished pipe to seal it, and now fuel leaks out of the gap between the rubber sleeve and the squished pipe and onto the ground when I fill up the tank. Also if the tank is pretty full, it sloshes out of the connection when driving. Not good!
So, what to do? Can the pipe extension at the top of the tank be straightened back into a nice circle if the tank is removed?
Or do I have to buy a brand new tank? The tank is good, no internal rust or scale.
Help! Anybody have an idea?
