Speedometer intermittently functioning on my 1993 Volvo 940 Wagon 900

My speedometer is intermittently functioning on my 1993 Volvo 940 (Non-Turbo) Wagon. I think that it might be the speedometer impulse sender mounted on the rear axle differential cover... Any insight into this issue will be greatly appreciated!
