Greetings from Cleveland! The response to my inquiry concerning Price Check has been most appreciated and welcome. I'm happy that there are so many out there who are willing to take the time to give their thoughts. In the same vein, some fool tagged the rear of my 240 DL the other day and set the bumper all catty-whumpus. My mechanic, when he had the car on the lift gave me a very expensive sounding "Oh, man!" and pointed out where the aluminum bumper had corroded away from the shock pistons, which made the hit all that much more problematic. It now looks like the impact broke the mounting plate on the one side and severely compromised the other. I've had local bone yards able to find me a few replacements (cost: about $300, complete--they pull) but I'm concerned that I'll end up with more of the same. Anyone familiar with a backing plate kit that might eliminate the corrosion problem? Any 'rust belt' owners out there with a solution or words of encouragement? I'd like to get this fixed before I leave the bumper on the highway someday soon, Thanx!
