PLEASE help a coworker...... 200 '88

i have a coworker with a '90 or '91 240 and she has had trouble with it. i wouldn't begin to have a clue what is the cause. this all the symptoms she could give me: she was driving in traffic one day and all the lights on the dash came on and it died a little bit after that (she said no convulsing, it just died.) i cannot remember if she said she could immediately restart the car or not but, she eventually did get it restarted and home. during this time, she did not notice any lack of power, smoke, anything and after getting it restarted, the lights remained off. she checked all pertinant oils, all looked fine and at level. a few days (possibly weeks) later it did the same thing. this time it bothered her enough to not restart it again and have it towed home where it has sat. she has a relative who tinkers on cars trying what he can but in reality, i don't think he that familiar with the quirks ( uhh, characteristics of a 240.)

what should she do to trace the cause and then the problem??

with this situation, did she possibly do any kind of damage given that it did restart and she noticed no change in the car??

anything???

any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
