Erratic speedometer 200 76

Something has hit my speedometer. The first 30 minutes of a ride it will work ok. Then it starts to level off giving lower readings than the correct value. (Checked with GPS )At last it goes down to about 10/20 km/h and hops back and fort between these values. Any clues anyone ??
