wipers 700 1986

1986 740 GLE, I just got it, and after two days the wipers ,when i hit the wiper switch, went on and did not stop...in all positions they go the same speed. but here's where it gets funny.I pull the arms off to access the motor, and then the motors works fine, all settings are correct (even intermitent)...so i put them back on, and back to the original problem

could the tension of the arms cause this? is the motor going bad, or are the arms not seating correctly to let it "park"?
