Strut and lower braces vs crashworthiness 900 1994

I have seen several manufacturers/catalogs sell strut and lower braces. If a non-factory lower brace and/or a strut brace is installed, does this affect the crashworthiness of the vehicle?

I guess if you are tying together different parts of the subframe and strut towers, you are stiffening the structure and I was wondering if there are any deleterious effects such as harsher ride, crashworthiness, pounding of suspension bushings, etc..
