Howdy all. Several months ago I wrote about a supposed rack noise.
I had it all apart recently and can state 100% that the problem is not with the rack or the u-joints. Rather it is with the steering column. Right behind the steering wheel.
I disconnected the steering column from the rack and removed and checked u-joints. A-OK. When I turned the steering wheel the problem persisted. I was able to isolate the problem to behind the steering wheel. As I turned the steering wheel to the position that made the noise there was some play in the column only at that one spot. I figure that it is a flat spot on a bearing? I cannot see to much without removing more of the dash.
I would like do some more research. I would appreciate if someone had the details regarding TSB (64904) about the steering shaft bearing on the bulkhead could you please send.
Hopefully this is less expensive than a rack repair.
Thanks
Chris
