Hello fellow Volvo lovers!
I'm having a problem with my beautiful '90 740. B230f non-turbo. It won't start!
The problem started one night, it took a lot of effort to start it. Then, the next day I get in it, it won't start at all. The starter motor cranks, fuel and battery voltage are OK. There is no spark. ECU signals seem fine.
The ignition system is a mess. First, I looked for failt codes, there were none. I ran through all of the diagnostic functions, all is OK. At first, it appreared to be the RPM sensor. Replaced that, still no spark.
I checked the amp stage, it's OK. Checked the coil, it was bad. I replaced the coil and the coil wire, and I had spark for one revolution twice, and the no spark again. re-checked coil and stage, they are OK. Then I opened the distributor,, (mounted at rear of engine) and it was fouled and pitted. It also had a high amount of oil inside.
My two main questions are,
1) will I need to remove the camshaft to repair bad seals, or can I fix it from the distributor?
2) if when the repair is completed it still doesn't start, what are some logical next steps?
