Can a turbo be eliminated ? 700

I was wondering if a turbo could be eliminated from a car and replaced with what the non turbo setups is? I'm looking to replace my 85 740gle 4sp w O/D (lots of maint/repairs needed but would make a good parts car) and am finding it tough enough to find that, much less a non turbo version.

I'd like to avoid the turbo since it's just one more thing that needs repairing.
