The car turns over in the morning, but it starts very rough and if left alone almost always stalls within 1-5 seconds(after rumbling and shaking and sputtering). It will start right back up again, and if given gas steadily, is usually fine. It does it again in the evening when I come out of work. This morning was very cold, and it was darn near impossible to start. But it did eventually start, and I just had to sit there for about 5 minutes keeping the revs slightly above normal.

On occasion after a start like this, the car will "bog down" when I drive away--that is, it won't go faster than 5 mph no matter how much gas I give it. The solution to this seems to be to turn the car off, and then start it again immediately. It's worked every time so far. But this is hard to predict--it seems random.

The car drives normally after these episodes. It almost sounds to my inexperienced ears like the car is choking when it stalls. Do you think this is a fuel pump issue? Or an air intake issue? Should I replace distributor cap, rotor, plugs and wires? Am I even close?

It does this even when it isn't very cold--the only difference being that when it's warmer it isn't as bad.
