For several months all or most of the warning lights...."SRS, Battery, Check Engine..." came on dimly while driving on the highway at high speed. They did not stay on, nor did they always come on. Recently they started to come on more brightly. Everything else appeared normal, however.
Yesterday, my wife told me that while driving in town, they all come on very brightly. They stayed on while she went to work and returned (about six miles.) While running an errand after work, they remained on and the radio stopped working, the gas gauge stopped working, then the fan motor for the heater turned off, and the engine stopped.
She had the car towed to a garage, and the mechanic said that the car started normally.
I had a problem w/ my '83 240 wagon that was similar, but only involved the battery light. I found that the wires from the alternator that run under the vibration dampner at the front of the engine were intermittently shorting. The car is still at the mechanics and i want to go hunting today.
Anyone experienced this situation and have a fix or suggestions?
