Idle surge/too high 200 83

SIGH! Why does it always seem that a repair just makes other parts start to act up?

Over the Xmas holiday, my son and i redid the wiring harness (as per Simon Eng's instructions),replaced the spark plug wire set, cleaned out the throttle body and idle control valve, new intake manifold gasket, new water pump. Seemed OK until a 6 hour drive up to Austin and now it idles at about 1500-2000 rpm...I've searched the archives and got some clues, but nothing definate. The idle control screw on the throttle body does not seem to matter, whether screwed in all the way or not, idle speed is still excessive. Anybody have an idea where to go from here? Thanks, Genaro.
