I have a 1979 Volvo 245 Wagon. It has the K-Jetronic injection system on it. I have had many problems with this car over the last few years. I have an exhaust leak just after the catalytic converter, but it has run fine with it. I have a “breaking up” problem as well. When placed in high demand (ie: climbing a hill) it will rhythmically break up or “miss” at a high rate of speed. It is similar to high speed coughing. If I turn on the blower motor, this problem will get worse. If I back off of it, the problem immediately goes away. Lately it hasn’t been starting for me. When I turn it over, it will run for one second, and then shut down. Then it won’t start. If I just turn the ignition on, and let the fuel pump run for a few seconds, she will start right up (and run for about a second and die). This closely mimics running out of gas. If I spray gas into the injection throat, it will run as long as I keep spraying, as soon as I stop, she does too. I have the Haynes book, and it seems to tell me the Fuel Pressure Control is not working, but it is a fairly expensive piece to replace, and I don’t want to needlessly buy an unneeded part. Has anyone ever encountered anything like this? Or does anyone have any ideas that may work?
