when setting the base idle speed I know you are supposed to jump the test plug to kill the idle air control motor. when I cleaned my throttle body on my '88 740 a few weeks back I reset the base idle (or so I thought), by jumping the test plug. I didn't notice (by ear) the engine speed change any. how ever the dwell/tach did move some but never below 600 rpm. not sure my IAC was disabled. when I took the IAC motor off to clean it, I forgot to hook the wiring back up. when I started the engine it settled at about 1600 rpm(dash tach). my question is can I set the base idle with the wiring disconnected instead of jumping the test plug? that way I am sure the IAC is disabled.
