While in the process of changing the rear main seal on my son's 85 240 (b230) I discovered the crank had nearly a 1/4" of endplay on crank (eyeball measurement). This is way over what I read it should be in Haynes but motor runs great. His clutch was in car when we bought it and documents indicate its less than a year old with very few miles. It is however an aftermarket "Luk" brand but we reinstalled it, pressure plate and throw out as they worked great before and showed very little wear. The trouble is, now when I step on clutch I get a metal to metal clicking sound thats not good. The noise does not start right when the throwout bearing hits pressure plate but starts makeing noise when you put pressure on it. I removed boot on bell housing and watched it work with the motor running and did'nt see any obvious problems except the flywheel moving back and forth which is very noticeable. When the flywheel moves so does the front pulley indicateing crank movement. I did check torque on harmonic balencer although from what I read does not have anything to do with crank endplay. Any thoughts on this are appreciated.
