front center moulding 200 1988

hey out there...i am missing the front center moulding on my '88 240 sedan...i ordered a new one from Voluparts and am having problems--i can't get the sucker on. can anyone tell me the easiest way to install this piece? could it possibly be that it is a poor spec'd aftermarket piece?
