I'm in the process of replacing the headliner in my '90 744T. I also want to replace the sunroof headliner.
How does one remove the sunroof headliner without destroying it in the process? Removing the sunroof, 8 Torx screws and two spring clips, no problem, but can't seem to be able to slide the headliner forward past the sunroof slide-tilt mechanisms. There are four spot-welded tabs on the headliner panel that slide in the side tracks. The front two will pass the mechanisms but the back two will not. The plastic pieces on the back tabs are taller than the front and won't pass. I've been able to get the front two tabs out of the tracks by firmly bowing the headliner panel whilst working one tab out of the track. Then I can cock the panel enough to get the other out and that is as far as I can get.
Do I need to remove the track or worse, the entire sunroof pan assembly?
