I need some advice. I have been working with a mechanic for about four years and until he seems to have been very fair with me. However, my 760 turbo suddenly would not start, and I had it towed to his shop. He called me this morning and said that both fuel pumps were down. I had checked this with my volvo diagnosis book and it said when the key was on, you should hear the internal fuel pump working. I heard that, but didn't say anything. He quoted a price of $715 to fix the problem (129.22 for the external pump, 340.17 for the internal pump and the rest in labor). I checked with a local parts store and they have the one pump for $80 and the other for $75. Needless to say, I am shocked and very disappointed in this guy.

I think I will do the work myself, but am I shooting myself in the foot? Do the auto parts store sell such cheap (non standard volvo parts) that I am really better off having the mechanic do it? I would really appreciate some advice from you guys. Most of you seem to really understand the volvos and that whole arrangement....jeff
