heater fan fuse keeps blowing

Ok, I searched the faq and several of the archives, as well as using the search utility on the site, and couldn't find a solid answer...

Symptoms:

-car starts and runs normally (relatively, it needs a tuneup and a fresh battery...)

-all electrics ok except for blown interior lights (yeah, I'm lazy...)

-manual heater/ac controls were working until last Friday

-any setting except "0" for fan control and the fuse blows.

Conditions:

-below freezing for the last many weeks. Briefly last week temp got above freezing (barely, like 34 F) for two days and rained like a bastard, turning to snow on Saturday.

-fresh air intake appears to be full of snow/ice

I found a couple of references to heater/ac leaks in the archives. Is this a symptom of a fan immersed in water, or frozen in ice, due to a crack in the housing?

Cathy's driving my 300SD until I get the blower fixed on her car. I want my car back! Please help... :)
