Strange Noise Upon Start-Up 700 1990

I have an odd sound that occurs only upon start up, but not upon every start up.

The sound is like the sound of an AC compressor going bad - kind of a metallic scream. Thing is, I am not using the AC in Feb.

The sound lasts only briefly - very briefly, but it is kind of loud. It hardly ever occurs when the engine is warm and while almosts always occurrs when the engine is cold, it does not occurr 100% of the time and for no apparent reason it is sometimes longer in duration than at other times. But never does the sound last more than two full seconds.

BTW: this model is a turbo - I hope this will not matter.
