What Gives? Runs Bad After New Fuel Senser 700 1988

Ran good untill new fuel senser was installed. Now it misses between 1200RPMS and 1800RPMS! Gas gage WAY off! Tank fills with 6 gals., but shows full after about 10 min. Gas gage shows empty and car misses but only takes 6 gal. If gage shows more than 1/2 full car runs fine. Have since replaced fuel pump and filter, the ones under the floor board. Fuel injectors have been cleaned too. Any ideas out there? My wagon has 280,000 and had been running well. The mechanic and I are stumped.
