164/240 steering wheel swap & key blanks 140-160 71

Greetings All!!!

General question for the community: will the steering wheel from a

pre-airbag 240GT fit on a 164 column??? Will the turn-signal switch

be compromised??? I realize that the column shroud may have to be

'modified' (HA HA--the never-ending story!!!).

Also, there's been some confusion lately about factory ignition-key blanks for 140/160. That guy on E-Bay is trying to give the impression he's peddling rare merchandise--piffle!!! These are still a dealer

available item; I ordered one for my 164 last year (#680196) for less

than five shekels. This is a good reminder for Volvophiles to avoid

being swept-up in E-Bay hysteria.

HOWEVER, the true problem arises when you attempt to have these

blanks cut. Volvo blanks are made of long-lasting steel--not plated

brass like most of the keys in our pockets. Some prissy locksmiths will refuse to cut steel blanks, claiming it's too hard on the machinery.

I understand that if you have the code number from your original key,

a Volvo dealer can send a blank already cut, but I have never tried this.

Anyway, if you want the steel blanks, better get 'em now. With Ford bean-counters in charge, you can bet your R-Sport Gauge Cluster that

Volvo keys will soon be cheap brass just like Detroit.

Now that I've composed this, I hope that Jerrod lets it stay up for more than 24 hours--unlike last time I bothered to post.

Safe motoring everybody!!!
