On Saturday I installed the intercooler, and watercooling setup for the turbo (8 hour job total, I had to modify existing oil cooler bracket), and the car is a whole different beast. Right now the boost is only at 10psi or so (still need the accurate guage), but is much faster, and more fun to drive. The extra power is a big plus, and for everyone out there who has a 81-83 Turbo that it not yet intercooled, this will be a big help for sure.
Soon, I plan on adjusting the fuel cutoff switch so the boost can be raised a tad (I plan on leaving it at 12psi), and I will install a real manual boost controller (and guage), instead of the needle bleed valve. For now, the fuel cutoff has been disabled (it kept spiking and cutting off at stock limit of 10psi during initial test drive), but I will keep my eye on the guage until the cutoff switch is fixed for 15psi.
Now I see why the intercooler is so important. It's a shock once you realize how much difference some colder air makes. This morning it was 28F, clear and dry, and the drive to work was.....lets just say quick :)
