Sealing the thermostat housing 200 84

Last summer when I changed the coolant, I noticed that the opening for the t-stat on this B23F with 202K miles was very corroded, pitted, etc.

The pitting starts at eh sides of the t-stat opening and radiate outward, effectively creeating small pathways for coolant to escape. In other words, the damage is not surface and can't be removed by planing the head.

Anticipating some leakage, I applied some RTV sealant along with a new rubber gasket.

Now it is leaking (after 2K miles of driving)

Is there any way of repairing the head in this area to overcome the leakage caused by this pitting?
