Speedo/Odo Problems (is 3000 miles in one month possible?) 200 1984

I've had my '84 240 GL since January 23rd, and since than, according to the odometer, I have logged 3400+ miles. Is that possible? (My parents looked at me bug eyed when I said I was going to change the oil today) Really, I only drive to school and back, and to places relatively close. I only put on 200-300 miles a week. What's going on? I have a B23F and an AW70 tranny, and 3.73 rear gears with stock height tires. I don't even know where to start? Should i pull a new speedometer/odometer assembly from the junkyard, or is the problem more complex than that? Thanks in advance.
