Transmission Swap 700 1989

I obtained a running parts car (1985 740 turbo) with what I think is an M46 OD manual transmission. I'm considering changing out my AW71 that is in the car now. I'll have the pedal assemblies, relays, cross member and drive shaft available for the conversion. Is this a suitable changeover transmission? Would this be the proper manual tranny for an '89?

I'm the original owner of this 89 model and it has now become a pleasure use vehicle only. I'd like to make it a little more sporty.

Anyone have some text to walk me through this? Thanks for your help...
