Help with purchase of '88 740 GLE 700 1988

I'm cosidering the purchase of a 1988 740 GLE with 87,000 miles on the b230f engine. I'm not very familiar with Volvo other than the excellent safety record. I've driven it and thouroughly checked all that I would normally check on any other car and it seems pretty solid other than a hiss coming from the exhaust system under the hood and squeaky brakes (needs new pads). I'm assuming the hiss might be an exhaust manifold gasket. I'm taking it to a dealer monday to have it inspected and if everything checks out, I'll probably purchase then. Are there any warnings you can give me or any things out of the ordinary that I should look out for? What else do I need to know about this car?
