Dangerous engine noise? 200 89

Tell me this is ok? (170K, 240)

Engine at idle goes 'ttdick . . . ttdick . . .tdick' intermediately. Comes on and off ocasionally. Goes away at above idle rmp. When I first noticed the noise I thought it was the heat shield. But underneath the car with the motor running today, it's really loud and sounds like it's coming from the egnine. Metal hitting against metal! Almost sounds like there is something in the oil pan! The heat shield seemed fine, I did wedge a screw driver inbetween and still had the noise.

I just converted to Mobil1 (noise was present before) and it's fairly noticable. Everything else is quite.

Engine runs like new.
