Hi.
I own a 71 164, Sif by name, burgundy by colour. We're in Denver currently, she's done some travelling: Originally sat in a garage in Manhattan with (literally) two little old ladies. I bought her in 95 or 96 with about 63,000 miles on her. Since then we've made it to about 116,000 miles with a B35 tranny rebuild then a conversion to 4 speed with over drive. She's been backed into recently, rear passenger qoarterpanel and I get offered $350 for her. Not on your life :) I love my 164, trusted, tried and true. Never stranded me, always made it home before breaking down. Now the ex-wife, Sif hated her with a passion (should have listened to my car GRIN), always broke down on her away from home and in the most inconvenient places possible.
I'm always looking for parts, specifically a driver's side door with the push button handle. I have one from a 140 on now, but it's not a 100% match. I have a parts car in the garage, 1972 I bought for the grill, tranny and other assorted parts. I love carbs, no quirky fuel injection here. The engine on the parts car needs a timing gear. Besides, the less sofisticated the better. I can rebuild or jury rig a solenoid (found that out when my high beams stuck on once), and I work with enough computers during the day :)
The other major part I'm looking for are the fog lights, no one I have ever spoken with has seen them. I found a set of yellow ones on a Mercedes 2 series and they're just waiting for me to get screws for the retaining ring, almost a perfect match. The mounting pots fit in perfectly.
If you know of a driver's side front door for sale let me know. It's the little things as well, like the rear window defrost (always wanted to use a couple of them for driving and fog light switches by changing out the plastic).
I'm in the middle of restoring Sif. Once she's all finished then it's time for a new 164 to work on. At some point I'll be looking for a good body car, the rest won't matter as long as I can get it to Denver (or wherever I happen to be at the time). I plan on rebuilding the 72 engine and converting it to carb, possibly boring it out and adding some two barrel carbs. I'd also like to get another 4 speed with OD as a spare. But the big $$ things have to wait.
Well, that's our story.
