rear seat clasp 200 93

my 93 240 SW's rear seat folddown release finally gave up the ghost. This is the release that has a plastic handle attached to a metal post on the middle of the back of the second seat. Is there any way to reattach a plastic

sheath or do I have to replace the whold post release item? I can still get it to release but have to use pliers to grasp tje release post.

Any suggestions as to what I should do?
