My 1991 740 wagon that I have owned since it came off a 3 year lease has developed a severe oil leak. I have run synthetic oil since 50k miles and the car now has 173k. It had no oil leaks last fall but over the winter it started leaking bad. It seams like there is oil above the starter area on the engine as well.

I owned a 82 turbo that had a plugged flame arrestor that caused this same type of problem. I do not own a shop manual for this car(can you recommend a good one?) therefore I'm not aware of a oil trap or arrestor
