Water Pump 200 1986

I had the water pump replaced on my 240 in October by a local mechanic (not a dealer). The car is now leaking coolant and the same mechanic is again suggesting the need to replace the water pump. Assuming he put in a new water pump (as represented to me) is there anything that would account for its failing so quickly? Or is there a reasonable liklihood that he misdiagnosed the problem?

Thanks in advance for any advice/comments.
