I own an 84 245 (246,000 mi). A friend of mine gave me his 81 244 GLE as a parts car, mostly for the power windows. (I'm 47 and have never owned a car with power windows!). The drivers side rear door will not open. Before I use my panel ripper to remove the outer skin, does anyone have any ideas? (the skin is rusty on the bottom, the entire car is rusty!)
I already thought of the following:
1. Take out the inner panel.
No good. It won't come out without some damage if the door won't open. I *want* the panel, it has to go into my car to replace the panel with the window crank!
2. Take out the hinge bolts that are visible when the front door is open. This will probably let me wiggle the door somewhat, but the latch plate will keep the door latch from pulling away.
