My '87 244 has 241,000 miles on it and is still running really well. The engine is a little tired, there are some minor noises when going over bumps, but the car is still very solid.
There is a lot of rust along the driver's side rocker panel, some has come through.
What should I do to keep it running forever? I'll take it to a mechanic to see what they say, but I'd like to know some of the little (ie - important) things I should do. Change all of the fluids? I know the auto tranny needs it. Just changed the differential fluid a little while ago, have a 1-year old 3-row radiator. The car is in fantastic shape for its age.
Should I go ahead and get a re-ring job on the engine or a rebuild? I have a little money now, so I'd like to do it while I have the cash. I really want to keep the car for another couple of years and not be afraid to take it out of town on 1,000 mile weekend trips.
Thanks for the info!
George.
