Heater blower, what's burning? 200 1985

Dear brick boarders,

My heater blower suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago. Never had any symptom of wear noises like some brick boarders have posted. It just stopped working no matter what the speed selector knob position. Fuse OK. I have not driven the car since except on very short trips and would try the blower switch briefly and then shut it off since nothing happened.

Yesterday I needed to take the car to work and decided to leave the blower switch on thinking it might come back alive again - guess what - it did! No strange noises - just as usual. After about 30 seconds or so I started smelling something burning - typical electrical overheating smell. I shut it off immediately and decided to give it a second try after a few minutes to make sure it came from it. This time the smell was very strong so I shut it off again. I could notice that it was spinning slower than normal at any speed selected. I proceeded to remove the fuse and am now wandering what it can be.

Will appreciate any help.

TIA, Fernando
