164 motor options 140-160 1970

I've been thinking about my 164.

Would a chevy V8 fit into a 164? The 240 can take one,

so what about a 164 -- it is setup for the heavier, longer

B30 so it seems like it would be a good fit. I figure

there are lots of 164s out there with blown auto transmissions

or fried cams that would be available cheap. A motor swap

would also solve the B30+transmission problem that is otherwise

quite nasty.

From what I've read, the ford V8 is wide and short while the

chevy V8 is long and narrow, so it would be a nice match for

the 164. Plus, the 164 suspension is setup for the heavier

motor, so a chevy V8 with alloy heads might not add too much

weight to the whole setup.

Such a beast might not be a whole lot more expensive than

putting a manual transmission on an automatic 164 with a built

up motor (that was otherwise tired before).
