leaky rear seal 900 92

Looks like I am going to have to replace the rear seal in my wife's 960 (in-line 6) for the second time in 6 months. First time cost me over $400 at the Volvo dealer, who has his shop 5 hours from here. Any idea why I would be losing this seal? The car has 160,000 Kilometers on it and runs like a top. Is the los of this seal something that is common to the 960GLE?
