Flame Trap Maintenance 200 1985

I am new to Volvo's. I have read quite a few messages and it seems that keeping the "flame trap" CLEAN is VERY important. Seems as though if not one will lose his engine seals. I understand it is part of the PCV but when and how do I clean it? MUCH thanks
