$500 rear shocks? 700 88

I'm looking at buying an 88 760 Turbo. Is it true that the rear shocks (Nyvomat?) cost about $400-$500 each. That's outrageous, even for Volvo. Do all of the 760's have the independent rear suspension that with these shocks? Is the price real? Are there any cheaper replacements?
