Wires on differential? 700 1990

I was working under the car (1990 745 wagon) this weekend and noticed that the differential (solid rear drive axle) has a set of wires going to it. No other car of mine has had wires going to the differential - can anyone tell me what these are for? They go directly to the "pumpkin" and my car does not have antilock brakes. (Although now it has new pads on all four corners :-)
