Leaky water pump and distributor, B28F 700 1989

My daughters 760GLE (200,000+Km and runs strong) has a perpetual antifreeze leak from, I assume, the water pump. At least that is where it looks as though it is coming from. In addition, there is also an oil leak that seems to emanate from behind the distributor. Both of these leaks are quite difficult to pin down due to the inordinate amount of plumbing on this engine.

My questions are as follows: Is it really necessary to pull the intake manifold off the top end in order to replace the water pump, or can it be done without? Are there special tricks or issues I should be aware of in this job? For the oil leak, is there a cam seal or something that would be causing this leak? What would it take to replace it? The Haynes manual I have does not shed much light on this particular subject.

Many thanks in advance.

JD
