OBD for ABS won't respond 900 1993

My ABS dash light is on when I start the car. According to the FAQ, position 3 on the OBD module should register the ABS fault codes. On my '93 945Ti when I put the lead for OBD "A" in position 3, I get no response from the unit. Position 2 & 6 respond with 1-1-1. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
