Electrical Wiring Question 200 89

My rear windshield wiper (89 240 wagon) was running somewhat intermittently for the last little while. Of course today it's pouring and it decides to quit altogether.

I took one look at the wiring that comes through at the hinge and sure enough it's broken. It appears (although I haven't looked too closely, because of the downpour)that there is no slack whatsoever to pull through and make a quick and easy splice. Anybody ever had this predicament? I can't imagine that there's a quick and easy solution. Any ideas anyone?
