Fuel pump interchange 200 1989

Recently purchased 89 240 has no fuel pressure to speak of (I can restrict the flow by holding my thumb over the line end that supplies the fuel rail!) Previous owners mechanic (?) appears to have replaced the original pump with an after market pump that isn't up to the job. I haven't had a chance to get a good view of what changes he might have made to accommodate this pump, but a question comes up. Checking in various manuals I see the Bosch pump for the 89 (0 508 464 039)provides 40+ psi. I have a new Bosch pump off of an 82 240 that apparently gives 70+ psi. My question is can the fuel pressure regulator deal with the additional pressure of this pump from the 82? Thanks for any insight.

Randy
