Syn oil causing rear main leak; gunk to stop? 200 1988

I started using synthetic oil & now the rear main leaks. The flame trap was changed a few months ago, so pressure should be OK. I did this on my other 240 and rear main cost $400 or so. I do most work but I don't want to drop tranny or engine. Any gunk safe to use to stop this leak? thanks.
