air conditioning 700 1990

I recently replaced the air conditioning/heater fan in my 1990 760 intercooler sedan. This was due to the fact that the plastic squirrel cage broke ino a millon pieces. I then noticed that the air condition is not functioning and the air conditioning switch is now flashing. Could I have damaged a relay or a sensor? Any ideas?
