Temperature gauge 200 1983

Wanted to thank everyone for the helpful replies in the overdrive/M46 thread...

Have another question now..when the car is fully warmed up, where should the temp. gauge indicator rest? My car seems to take forever to warm up (at least 5 minutes of highway driving before the gauge budges from 'C'). When the car is warmed up the indicator almost never rises above about 1/4 even with the A/C on at full blast.

However, if I start to climb even a moderate grade in O/D, the indicator quickly moves to half way between 'H' and 'C', and sometimes almost into the red "warning" zone. If I turn off the O/D, the tach shoots way up, but the temp. goes down almost immediately.

What's going on? I recently put in a new Nissen radiator, Volvo OE waterpump and thermostat. Maybe I used the wrong kind of thermostat for this car??

Thanks again,

Jim
