Testing Chrysler Ignition System 200 1983

I have an intermittent problem and I have traced it to the ignition. I have checked the wire connectors at the black box and the three prong connector below the distributer. How can I test the hall effect switch on the distributer, and can I check it from the wires at the black box to see if there are any shorts or opens in the harness? Thanks Brickboard!
